Crawled, currently not indexed

The Page Indexing report lists a page as "Crawled, currently not indexed", and it has held that state for 7 or more days.

What This Is

The Page Indexing report lists a page as “Crawled, currently not indexed”, and it has held that state for 7 or more days.

This state means Google read the page and chose not to keep it in the index. The page is not blocked. Google crawled it, judged it, and left it out. Resubmitting the same page changes nothing.

Before you check

  1. You are reading the “Crawled, currently not indexed” row, not a different reason.

  2. You have the exact URL and can open and read the full content.

  3. You know which pages on the site cover the same topic.

If any of these is false, fix it before running the tree.

Diagnostic tree

Run the checks in order. Each check ends in a resolution or the next check.

Check 1. Is the page thin or duplicate?

How: read the page and count the substantive words. Compare it against the page that ranks for the same query. Check whether the content repeats another page.

Why: Google crawled the page and dropped it. The most common cause is that the page adds nothing the index does not already have.

If the page is thin (under 300 substantive words) or a near-duplicate of another page, go to Resolution A. If the page has 300 or more substantive words and is distinct, go to Check 2.

Check 2. Is the page canonical-clean?

How: run a live test in the URL Inspection tool. Read “User-declared canonical” and “Google-selected canonical”. Confirm both point at this URL.

Why: a canonical that points elsewhere folds this page into another one and reports it as not indexed.

If the canonical points to a different URL, or two or more canonicals conflict, go to Resolution B. If exactly one canonical points at this URL and no other is declared, go to Check 3.

Check 3. Does the page add unique value?

How: list the specific facts, data, or steps that exist only on this page and nowhere else on the site.

Why: Google keeps pages that earn a place. A page that restates what others say, even at length, still gets dropped.

If the page adds zero unique facts, data, or steps, go to Resolution C. If the page adds one or more unique facts, data, or steps, go to Resolution D.

Resolutions

Resolution

Condition

Action

A. Thin or duplicate

Thin content or a near-duplicate of another page

Expand or merge. Add unique value, or consolidate into the stronger page

B. Canonical conflict

Canonical points to another URL

Fix the canonical so it points at this page, or accept the target page as the one that should rank

C. No unique value

The page restates what other pages already say

Rewrite it to add facts, data, or steps that exist only here

D. Unique but dropped

Substantive, canonical-clean, and unique

Submit once, then wait 14 or more days. Improve rather than resubmit repeatedly

When to escalate

Escalate when all three are true.

  • The page is substantive, canonical-clean, and clearly unique.

  • It has held “Crawled, currently not indexed” for 14 or more days.

  • The page previously indexed and ranked, then dropped out.

Everything else closes in the resolutions above.
